In recent years we have seen unprecedented progress in the basic sciences of mind and brain and in the treatment of psychiatric and neurologic disorders. Now, neuroscience plays an expanding role in human life beyond the research lab and clinic. In classrooms, courtrooms, offices and homes around the world, neuroscience is giving us powerful new tools for achieving our goals and prompting a new understanding of ourselves as social, moral and spiritual beings.

Neuroethics at the Intersection of the Brain and Artificial Intelligence

We are living in a transformational age in which artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly — and often without transparency — being integrated into our daily lives. AI brings with it a host of benefits and risks that present in different ways and with varying levels of urgency in different contexts. When the context is the human brain, the constellation of ethical, legal, and societal issues that arise inevitably converge with and at times magnify familiar neuroethics issues.

This interdisciplinary meeting will explore pressing issues at the intersection of the brain and AI, including those related to brain computer interfaces and other related technologies, mental health and wellness, and beyond. We will bring together and bridge parallel conversations happening in different spaces, including within a range of academic disciplines, such as neuroethics, AI ethics, neurolaw, human rights law, science and technology studies, and engineering. Interactive sessions and discussions will convene academic experts, industry professionals, and policymakers to help accelerate and amplify new ways of thinking about and governing at the intersection of the brain and AI.
