Committee Appointments

The International Neuroethics Society (INS) is seeking members to nominate themselves or a colleague to serve on a standing committee of the Society. Terms of service on committees are for two (2) years with the potential to be renewed for one additional term.

Learn more about each of our committees, the role and responsibilities of each group, and a list of their current members.

  • We annually seek applicants for the Program Committee and Student/Postdoc Committee.
  • The Membership Committee and the Engagement & Outreach Committee also regularly have open seats.
  • Nominating Committee members are appointed by the Board and follow the more rigorous nomination process outlined on the Leadership Positions page.
  • The Governance Committee is not open to applicants.
  • Only current Board members may serve on the Executive Committee.

Apply

To apply for a committee, email INS staff <staff@neuroethicssociety.org> with the subject line ‘Committee Appointment’ and indicate which committee you are most interested in joining.

In the body of your email, please write a brief statement (up to 200 words) about why you’d like to join the committee. Highlight what experience you can bring to this service and what priorities you would emphasize as a member of the committee.

With your email, also attach an up-to-date version of your curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé. Alternatively, you may provide a link to a personal website, institutional profile, or LinkedIn profile if you do not have a CV or résumé prepared.

Eligibility

Individuals with a demonstrated interest in neuroethics and a commitment to the international neuroethics research community may apply. Students, trainees, professionals, and retirees may apply. We especially encourage members who identify with underrepresented communities and marginalized groups to apply. All applicants will be considered.

Nominees do not need to be current INS members, however membership status and previous engagement in Society activities is a key consideration. We encourage all nominees to join the Society or renew their membership when sending their application by email. All successful candidates invited to serve on a committee are required to be INS members.

Self nominations are welcome and encouraged. We also appreciate nominations of colleagues that you feel should be considered for these opportunities. If nominating a colleague, describe why you feel the individual would be a good fit to serve on a committee and let them know that you have submitted their name so they have ample time to prepare and submit the required documents to complete their application.

For specific questions regarding eligibility, contact INS staff <staff@neuroethicssociety.org>.

Selection Process

Nominees and their application materials will be reviewed by current co-chairs of the committee to which they are applying. Selections will be made in consultation with INS staff and leadership. Their decisions regarding appointments to the committee will be final.

Nominees selected for appointment will be invited to join the committee and immediately begin a 2-year term. All applicants will receive correspondence regarding appointments by January 31, 2026. Please refrain from contacting staff about the selection process and decisions prior to this date.

Diversity and Inclusion

The International Neuroethics Society is committed to equity, fairness, and to fostering an inclusive and diverse professional community characterized by a healthy culture with transparent practices and in accordance with the Code of Conduct. For all opportunities and positions, the Society welcomes applicants from underrepresented communities and marginalized groups, including women, people identifying as LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and students living in or originating from Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

Applicants are encouraged to highlight any aspect of themselves — including identity, national origin, life experience, or other considerations — relevant to our efforts to better include, support, and/or empower underrepresented communities. Details about personal identity or experience can be submitted through the nomination form or included in the cover letter.
